Mitt Romney … a vapid, insidious, cynical character

I must admit I’m very impressed with the Republican electorate, in that even they are able to clearly see that Mitt Romney is nothing more than a vapid, insidious, cynical character to say the least. I think I’d give anything to see Santorum upset Romney in Michigan-in fact I can barely contain myself at the prospect of having what many, including myself perceive is an unelectable, extremist Santorum emerge. You simply cannot continue to insult and abuse the intelligence and/or run over the rights of 52% of the population, (females if you’re wondering), known as an extremely critical well educated on the issues, consistent, independent voters. It just doesn’t add up. In fact in terms of controlling women’s bodies- the Virginia Republican legislation passing what amounts to a mechanical/technical yet quite physically real rape of women. Is there any way in the world Republicans can win with this, the absolute and most personal kind of interference?

Gingrich

I’ve really wanted to write a letter to the editor for quite awhile
now to comment on this tragicomedy/Republican presidential primary  In
fact I’d promised to say nothing until something really substantial
occurred, as in when the actual nominee emerged. When this does, in
fact happen, I’m sure I’ll certainly have something critical to say in
witnessing the whole incredible historic political phenomena. But I’ve
noticed something else in the meantime that needs mentioning. And that
is, aside from all of the rhetoric on their respective podiums, one
should look closely at the blood-thirsty and frightening, Look at the
people surrounding them at the podiums/in their audiences and their
intense look of absolute irrational fear and visceral hatred/racism
in their eyes, voices and tone. Enough to give any Center-Leftist a
heart attack. These primarily White or European Americans and a
smattering of ‘interesting’ minorities were out there as well. Way,
way out there.
And now along comes Newt Gingrich, ‘fanning the fires’ of that raw
racism and hatred, utilizing it for his own political purposes.
Well fine then, let those of us who’ve decided to at least try to do
things out here together without killing each other go ahead and
hope that Newt Gingrich does become the Republican nominee because I
don’t believe for a minute that he represents the majority of
Americans. I can’t.

I like most women I meet, I really do. Aside from the obligatory
battling with my older sisters and
not understanding why the girl’s never got caned in boarding school I
hold no real resentment toward them either.
And when I do disagree with women it still doesn’t mean I hate them.
Why do these Conservative Republicans?
I understand that Mississippi is now in the process of implementing
the strictest abortion law in the nation which as
we all well know will ultimately end up with mostly but not
exclusively minority dead women in back alleys and all of
the other horrors associated with illegal abortion. Will these people
ever learn? The Republican party really is becoming
the party of death for women in this one respect no doubt.

Boy, do I feel stupid. Ever since doing serious political mental
battle with my dad and all of his British West Indian
Tory buddies and their often excessively pretentious/contradictory
nonsense-not always mind you, but too much nonetheless, I’ve sworn
that Conservatives and Republicans, long the bane of my existence
since those battles, had no sense of humor and
then along comes brother-mon Herman Cain. I was wrong.

Stop sending jobs overseas

It seems that Texas Gov. Rick Perry has decided to start his campaign out on a very serious and an immediately relevant lie. He claimed last week that Barack Obama had “downgraded the job situation.” This hypocrite knows, as does Romney who has used a similar line, that it is in fact the Republicans who have consistently blocked Democratic efforts just to eliminate the tax credit given for the exporting of American jobs.

Yes they’re given a tax credit to export our jobs. No doubt that Americans are going to have to compete in and on an international field now and sometimes it’s going to get viciously competitive. Technologically in particular, which will take much retraining, but this shipping of American jobs out of here by the millions may be good for the stockholders but I’m not sure it’s any kind of patriotic act for the country.

And then trying to blame Obama for such stark Republican policy makes Perry a disingenuous liar. And that lying reminded me of another Texan.

Of course I’m not letting Obama off the hook either here in terms of not showing enough fiery passion and straight up courage! And this isn’t new. It was when he coldly ignored/pretended it was happening and he deserted American labor in the all-important battle of Wisconsin that first frustrated me. Still a supporter in general though.

Pushing us over the edge

Does the obviously extreme right-wing tea party truly hate this country so much that they would push it over the edge and destroy it’s economy instead of make some, any kind of compromise?

They probably all have an individual corporate golden parachute of some kind formal or informal or another kind of corporate insurance/re-assurance, no doubt.

They raised the debt limit for Bush over five times in a row. I can only conclude then that this is racist. Worse, stupid. And a blind self-destruction. God help us all

Protecting America from its enemies

One can say what they wish and feel as they may about the American president but with the death of Moammar Gadhafi he has kept one serious campaign promise about the continued elimination of Osama bin Laden, al-Qaeda and other enemies sworn to destroy America.

He’s been absolutely superb in his geopolitical moves, a professor that’s simultaneously extremely shrewd and courageous to boot. Congratulations yet again my man, along with NATO’s air-force (us and Europe) and the Arab Spring, which has proven once again there is in fact one area in which the man is incredibly astute and successful, no?

Birther bullshat!

I had said up until a few days of the last Presidential  election that there was a certain kind of European American or American European, for the sake of conversation, that would rather slit their wrists than accept the fact that an African American or (again, as I believe more accurately) an American African, a gulp, real Black man either way had truly been elected President and leader of this incredible country. I’m exaggerating of course but for those here and around the world that subscribe to any of the ‘pure blood’ theories out there probably not by much.

And it is precisely these incredibly insecure, paranoid, ‘purists’ that one can  point to  for spawning and encouraging this ‘great denial, this ‘birther’ movement. It’s as if the English thrown had been taken over by space aliens in some of their minds.

It is absolutely impossible for them to accept that this last election ever even happened. Shock! Still! This cannot be, so let us attack him from some other ridiculous time consuming, and distracting/nonsensical angle. Interestingly it also allows these people to indirectly and subtlety  of course both call the President the n-word and try to strip him of his dignity/separate/alienate him by saying that he’s not one of ‘us’ when that is exactly who he is if anything  albeit a future version of us  if anything no doubt..  I’m afraid the ‘birthers’ are just going to have to get over their melodramatic theatrics and recognize that…yup it’s really happened  and jeez the Presidential door is now open to many more Obamas’ and Gonzales’, Chins,  etc.,…gee maybe even a Native American one day, but then that’s another story. The point is the psychological racial glass ceiling in terms of the Presidency has been penetrated and penetrated permanently. Suffice to say too that in this detracting Obama story not even the phony, master-con and showman Donald Trump himself can bring any life or the least bit of ‘show-time’ whatsoever to this non-issue, this non-debate. Pathetic. Acceptance. Acceptance and reality ‘birthers’, puhleeze.

Gracias por esto.

Hyde Park vs. Hawaii

It is absolutely the most interesting and supreme irony that Republicans and hysterical Conservatives who consistently attacked Obama for being a Chicago (political?) gangster have instead essentially found, a much gentler, far, far more serene and cerebral, mild-mannered neophyte, more so than they could have ever imagined.

I know because I’m old enough to remember Mayor Daley’s no damn nonsense domination of the feared/respected Democratic political machine. And hey as much as everyone could and would battle politically/socially  among themselves they all knew that the ‘Big Dick’ was ultimately in charge…well him and the remnants of the mob of course. I think for me, being in Boulder now for so long there’s just a touch of ‘Stockholm Syndrome nostalgia’ for that old Chicago political cohesiveness and kick ass Democratic passion again…although not to help us steal another election a la Kennedy…(I know ssshhh) No, what’s seriously important here and requires the most immediate attention is for us  to find out if Obama can really fight and how and where we can fight with him. And although I’m for that I have a tendency to agree with my family, friends and neighbors in Hyde Park in their observation that Obama is from warm, sunshiny, ‘paradisy’, positive Hawaii, NOT Hyde Park and they/we simply don’t know if he can take a punch-or more importantly now, if he can actually start throwing a few important ones.

Blue North vs. Red South, the Cultural War! But leave us Austin!

In truth if I were to ever have been given my druthers, at this point I think I would really rather that the tea party, whatever that really is/turns out to be in reality, along with the fringe Republicans it attracts in Congress, er, uh, along with the “red states” and their red state Luddite thinking in general would, led by Texas, (you can leave those dynamite and charming women behind though thank-you-I almost married two of ‘em different places and years of course but both outta sweet, sensitive, creative and gorgeous Austin)… just go ahead and actually secede from this brighter, bluer, and far more hopeful Union!

I’m sorry but I am just so sick and tired of these pseudo-intellectuals and outright frightened anti-intellectuals pouring their often confusing, almost always diabolical and distracting conversation into the more legitimate and serious political and social debate …in many cases  just saying almost anything however far-fetched for crying out loud…from the uneducated Michelle Bachmann’s proclamation that the founders worked tirelessly to free the slaves to the ignoramus Donald Trump’s pushing of the birther issue, to no, no I refuse go any further… I think you understand where I’m going. And I`ve been over some of the facts and figures of the North/Blue vs. the South/Red, albeit superficially in terms of resources, product capabilities, scientists etc., and quite frankly I really like our “blue” chances in a cerebral, even real civil war. Of course this won`t happen, their seceding, but the ongoing cultural and philosophical war definitely will continue. And one thing I am  certain of is that in it, whatever happens the solidly Red South and their allies  and will not be rising again, not unless it is within a fully integrated in every literal and figurative sense of that word, (at least Blue and more likely ‘Purple’) union period. Or as I heard one tough and brash, young serious female Long Islander yell  to some big Southern guy loud-mouth in an argument in line. ‘Haven’t you heard? The war’s over and you lost’. ‘Get over it’. The other saying going around that seems to also get the point across rather astutely albeit  more crudely is,.. ‘Don’t tea on me and tell me it’s raining.  Exactly.  GRANT D.
